JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — One person was shot to death and five others were wounded by gunfire at a bar in Mississippi’s capital city.
Capitol Police said the shootings happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the Daiquiri Bar in downtown Jackson, less than a half mile (0.6 kilometers) from the governor’s mansion.
The coroner has identified the victim as 25-year-old Niger Devon McGee.
The five wounded people were taken to a local hospital, according to Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bailey Martin.
The Daiquiri Bar posted on Facebook that it is closed until further notice.
“We are working closely with law enforcement to assist with their investigation and ensure that justice is served,” the post said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted, especially those who were harmed or injured during the incident.”
